Summary

Katie Franklin helps Time Warner Cable continue identifying energy savings, and provides a viability-testing model for existing technologies.

Goals

After establishing a carbon footprint baseline, Time Warner Cable (TWC) enlisted Katie Franklin to help identify specific energy efficiency projects and to help identify energy savings in its carbon abatement strategy.

Solutions

Franklin focused specifically on the facilities in central New York and conducted a business case analysis on new technologies that displace AC cooling. Franklin constructed an interactive model to test the viability of these new technologies and the model could serve as a template for future technology evaluations. Additionally, Franklin identified key barriers that are impeding wide-scale energy efficiency project implementation. She developed a three-phase process improvement plan that provides recommendations on how to create more employee time for energy efficiency projects, improve data collection and data management practices and develop internal resources and employee engagement initiatives to grow the culture of energy efficiency and sustainability at TWC.

Potential Impact

Franklin's recommendations and plan could spread throughout TWC, which employs over 50,000 people.
