Goals
Lauren Smith was asked to focus on PVH’s local and global carbon footprint during her time as an EDF Climate Corps fellow. She oversaw PVH’s participation in the New York City Mayor’s Carbon Challenge, drafting the company’s strategy to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions from New York area properties by more than 30 percent over the next ten years.
Solutions
As part of this, Smith surveyed lighting at several of the company’s corporate offices, partnering with facilities managers to recommend upgrades across offices, retail showrooms and design workspaces. Given PVH’s business reach, its supply chain presents significant opportunities to evaluate and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. To better understand the areas where PVH has the most potential for influence, Smith surveyed the company’s organizational boundaries, mapping the entire supply chain to develop a recommendation for a global footprint methodology and propose key reporting mechanisms for the future.
Potential Impact
Smith's projects could reduce energy use by more than 400,000 kilowatt hours annually and save approximately $320,000 over the next five years.
