John Shen worked alongside the Energy & Sustainability team to evaluate the Energy Use Intensity (EUI) for its Retail branch portfolio. Shen created a tool using regression models developed by the EPA to simulate ENERGY STAR Scores. This tool not only compares the branches with similar sites throughout the industry, but also can be used to compare similar internal branches within a specific region.

Utilizing data from various internal databases, Shen was able to calculate the scores, in mass, for the entire Retail branch portfolio. His findings indicate that there are potentially 500 branches that already meet the ENERGY STAR Certification requirements and another 1,000 branches that are relatively close to meeting the requirements.

Additional creations included a branch survey template that could be used to collect pertinent site specific information as well as identify energy efficient opportunities. Such opportunities not only could save energy, but could increase the ENERGY STAR Scores for those sites that are relatively close.

As a final step, Shen provided recommendations for short and long term action plans and timelines.
