Summary

Affuembey Affuembey worked to improve sustainability at Howard University.

Goals

Howard University hosted Affuembey Affuembey as its 2013 EDF Climate Corps fellow. He spent his summer working on several sustainability projects across campus.

Solutions

Affuembey’s work included lighting retrofit projects in three of Howard’s residence halls and the College of Dentistry, which have the potential to produce a little over $250,000 in annual savings and a Net Present Value of almost $800,000.

Along with lighting, Affuembey recommended Howard effectively participate in Washington DC’s Clean and Affordable Energy Act by updating and expanding the data reported about building energy performance.

In addition, he worked on the university’s Groundswell Community Power Program, electric vehicle charging station and a campus-wide “Bottle-less” Water Initiative that could increase the presence of filtered water stations on campus, alleviating the campus dependency on bottles.
