Summary

Scott Miller worked with Caesar Entertainment to pilot pump retrofits and innovative lighting options.

Goals

Scott Miller was asked to identify energy efficiency opportunities in the areas of exterior wall-wash lighting along with pool, spa and fountain pump systems at Caesars Entertainment Corporation.

Solutions

Miller’s lighting studies focused on high intensity discharge lamps at the Flamingo Las Vegas and the Eiffel Tower Experience at Paris Las Vegas. He conducted multiple on-site tests utilizing the latest innovations in LED lighting. Miller determined Caesars Entertainment could save more than 70 percent of the annual cost of lighting these landmarks and enhance visual appeal of the architectural structures.

Miller conducted a survey of more than 125 pump motors in Bally’s Las Vegas, Caesars Palace Las Vegas, Flamingo Las Vegas, Harrah’s Las Vegas, Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, Paris Las Vegas, Rio All-Suites Hotel & Casino and The Quad Resort & Casino. He determined variable frequency drive (VFD) retrofits on average, could save 60 percent of the energy cost to operate the surveyed pump systems. As a result of these findings, VFDs were successfully piloted on two pools and one fountain at Caesars Palace Las Vegas.

Potential Impact

By implementing Miller’s project recommendations at all domestic properties, Caesars Entertainment could save more than $350,000 and approximately six million kilowatt hours annually, which is enough to power more than 500 homes and avoid 3,400 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions for one year.
